Are you a true back specialist in Sports Therapy?

Back pain is one of the most common issues people face — whether you’re an athlete, an office worker, or someone who just enjoys staying active. It can be a real debilitating condition that really chips away at one’s identity and performance, be that in a sporting environment, your work or into your personal life at home with your family. It’s no surprise that many sports therapists, physios, and rehab professionals advertise back pain treatment.

But here’s the truth: not everyone who says they treat backs is a true back specialist.

What Defines a True Back Specialist?

Being a true back specialist goes beyond simply massaging a tight muscle or handing out a few stretches or exercises on a sheet for people to complete at home, unsupervised and without guidance. It requires a deep understanding of spinal anatomy, biomechanics, and how the nervous system interacts with movement. This takes years, if not decades of continual learning and experience to acquire this deep rooted anatomical knowledge.

A true specialist can assess not just where you feel pain, but why it’s happening — uncovering movement patterns, strength imbalances, compensations, and hidden weaknesses that might otherwise be missed. They focus on the cause, not just the symptoms. Instead of offering quick fixes, they build a long-term plan that helps you recover properly and move better for the future.

True specialists also keep learning. They stay updated on evidence-based treatment methods — from manual therapy to exercise prescription to neuromuscular retraining — and they have real-world experience working with everything from simple strains to complex, chronic back conditions.

Most importantly, a true back specialist knows the limits of their scope.
They work ethically, refer to other trusted professionals when needed, and always prioritise your health over making a sale.

Why It Matters

Choosing the right person for your back care matters.
Poor assessments, guesswork treatments, or outdated advice can delay your healing or, worse, create bigger problems down the line. When you work with someone who understands backs deeply, you don’t just chase symptoms — you rebuild strength, confidence, and long-term resilience.

Where I Stand. I want to be upfront with you. I don’t claim to be the world’s leading back expert or a deep subject matter researcher. But I have been highly trained by genuine experts who are at the top of the field, my mentor is a World leading Osteopath, author of 9 books and an international lecturer specialising in the assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of sports injuries and has worked with top-flight athletes through to more office based workers in need of treatment to maintain their identify and output. Their knowledge and experience has synergistically been passed down to me and I take great pride in learning with a growth mindset to be the best therapist for you.

I’ve invested heavily in learning evidence-based techniques, understanding movement, and treating people with real-world back issues — not just textbook cases.

In every session, my focus is clear:

·       Thorough assessment,

·       Honest advice,

·       No false promises,

·       And a commitment to helping you truly recover, not just feel better for a few days.

If a case is beyond my scope, I will tell you — and help you find the right person to move forward with; imaging may be required or through my thorough assessment we may find, like a therapy detective, other conditions that are not my field of practice and we must refer on to the expert in that area.

That’s the professional standard you deserve.

If you’re struggling with back pain and want real, honest help — not gimmicks, not quick fixes — I’m here to work with you.
